We started the Humane Society in the late summer of 2009. Our goal was and still is to benefit the pets of the island through basic health and preventative care. To work towards that goal, we run a small animal clinic. We treat mostly dogs and cats and once in a while a rabbit.
The weekly clinic on Saturday morning is run by all volunteers, including our vet Dr. Zeke. Outside clinic hours we answer questions by mail or phone and attend to emergencies. Every 6-8 weeks a vet from the mainland comes by to perform a spay & neuter clinic and for the cats we run a TNR Program.
All of this could not have worked without the help and support of all our volunteers, local villagers and travelers.
We love what we do and have a group of volunteers who help out at the clinic and other CCHS programs.

Monique is the glue that holds the whole crazy circus on track. Her particular skill set includes training, education and the people side of the animal business. She provides a firm steer through the chaos when it all gets a bit too much.
Monique has been working her way up at the clinic.
She’s most known for her strict though righteous policy at the front desk and keeping her head cool when everyone else is losing it.
No one at the clinic earns a penny for all the work done. We’re all volunteers, some with full time jobs, others retired. Some just starting and learning, others offering their lifelong experience.
Whether volunteers help with clinic days, spay and neuter programs, paint a wall, or repair something at the animal clinic. Whatever your strengths are – it’s likely that you can help!
This hardcore team of cat lovers know what it takes to trap neuter and release cats in order to keep our growing population under control.
It’s not an easy job and it takes a lot of time to earn the trust of a wild cat! Carin and her trusty crew of Carol and Sophie do this every day for weeks on end!
