Caye Caulker Humane Society 2022 Annual Update

CCHS Update for 2022 -

2022 was a good year for us at the Caye Caulker Humane Society and we have some interesting numbers to share!

We are happy to report that Tom Sullivan is happy to allow us to keep renting the property where the CCHS is located for the immediate future – which is, since we don’t own a property, always our annual concern!

We have now set up regular monthly donations from folks who have specifically asked us. So if there is anyone out there who would be interested in doing the same, just complete the Donation Form on our website, add the note in the message section that you would like to make a monthly donation and the amount you would like to donate, and we will be more than happy to set that up for you!

Monique, Leighann and Amanda are working on getting the Caye Caulker Humane Society computerized with the patient records. It is database-driven and we hope to have it all in place by Mid January 2023. This will come with a cost but we are hoping we can do it for a monthly fee of less than $25 a month, and thanks to Aria at Belize Studio who has taken out the website costs and service into her fold, we do not have a website cost anymore, so we feel this is money well spent. It’s quite a project. We have so many animal records – over 800 and we are not completely updated yet!

Caye Caulker Humane Society Clinic Visits

Monique collated all the data this year for visits to the clinic!

The numbers are nothing short of astonishing!

Spay & Neuter (S&N) Clinics

Caye Caulker Spay and Neuter Clinic

Our annual Spay and Neuter at the Caye Caulker Humane Society looks like this:

Sadly we have to report huge euthanasia numbers due to the distemper outbreak from February to June and in addition, we assume that many more died without our help.

Dr. Zeke and the Cat Crew worked midweek on spaying and neutering cats, the dogs were nearly all with Dr Baptist.

Odd how the numbers panned out!

Travel Ban

Currently the CDC’s (USA and Canada) have extended the travel ban through Jan 2023, there in an inkling of hope that it will be lifted after this but nobody in the industry thinks this will happen. That’s such a tough one for us.

Dogs are allowed from Mexico, so maybe someone out there has contacts for the dogs to stay in Mexico until they can clear through to the USA?

Dog Grooming

Pampered Paws and Katia have been renting the deck of the Caye Caulker Humane Society clinic for dog grooming every Friday.

It is working great for them so far and we are happy to refer dogs to them for nail, anal glands, and of course fab hair do’s! Their service has taken some pressure of off us!

Our Awesome Team

Our core team at the Caye Caulker Humane Society are Zeke, our Vet, Amanda, and Monique who head up the board, and our stalwart ‘ask-them-anything-and-they-will’ team of Carol, Joe and Leighann for weekly clinics. They are our rocks and we could not do it without them!

Carol and the Cat Crew (Carin and Sophie) have taken up the task of clearing the island of wild reproducing cats – some feat!!  Of course, it’s going to take a while but the numbers show in just two seasons what a difference it makes.

Joe takes up the task of fixing up the site. The last project was to add our external louvre windows to keep the weather out. He is usually walking Adele (former foster and BFF) down to the end of the airstrip avoiding crocs!
